Our Street - Retrosuburbia for Kids
Our Street is a permaculture storybook for children, written by Beck Lowe and David Holmgren, and illustrated by Brenna Quinlan.
This book has been written for upper primary school-age children and explores how life can be, and has been, in Australian suburbs from the 1950s to the 2020s.
It's both a historical reflection and a positive inspiration for children.
Our Street asks the question: 'Can we live in a thriving community like this, here in our street?'
The book tells relatable stories of neighbours cooperating, of growing and sharing food, dealing with big changes and of the colourful details that make everyday life interesting.
The feel is similar to David's recent book Retrosuburbia - A DownShifters Guide to a Resilient Future - but perfectly suited for youngsters to connect to sustainable and resilient ways of living.
Our Street was published by Melliodora Publishing.
